Does a Rotating Display Need Two Keypad Overlay Artwork Versions?

Separate screen rotation, physical mounting and artwork viewing angle. Check fixed legends in permitted orientations before approving one overlay version or ordering two different printed parts.

Existing Baoshengda black-frame display-window overlay; not evidence of a rotating display or keypad function tests

A keypad overlay for equipment with a rotating display does not necessarily need two artwork versions. Establish whether the screen content, display enclosure or entire control unit rotates, then check that fixed legends and symbols remain readable and identify the correct controls in every agreed operating orientation. One overlay can use one approved artwork file if it meets those requirements. Separate parts and quantities only when the printed content, outline or mounting orientation actually differs. Automatic screen rotation alone is not a reason to order another overlay version.

In its 14 October 2026 Gravitas availability announcement, ThermoWorks said it had cleared its preorder backlog and was shipping from inventory. The announcement describes a removable wireless display, and the current product page specifies 180° automatic screen rotation. This is an availability update and a description of product features, not evidence that the product was first launched that day. It does not establish the internal switch, overlay or circuit construction, or a supply relationship with Baoshengda.

If your own equipment allows a display unit to be detached, repositioned or turned around, a separate graphic or keypad overlay order raises a practical question: once the reading turns upright, do the fixed legends and directional symbols on the enclosure still make sense? This article addresses artwork approval for such projects. It does not assess the actual labeling of the product in the announcement.

First establish what actually rotates

Describe each type of rotation separately so the supplier can determine whether there is a second physical printed part. Dynamic screen content and fixed ink on an overlay are different objects. The angle used to view an artwork file is a separate issue again.

Suggested purchasing checks for rotating-display projects, not a universal acceptance standard. Use operating orientations and artwork approved by the equipment project. The reported product feature is described on the ThermoWorks product page.
What changesWhat to check before orderingDoes this establish a need for two artwork versions?
Only the screen content rotatesWhether fixed legends, key names and arrows still identify the intended operationNo automatic conclusion; first establish the usable orientations of the same overlay
The display enclosure is turned aroundThe physical top edge, operator position, key locations and window relationshipCheck the installed assembly; a screen capture is insufficient
The overlay mounting orientation changesOutline, locating features, openings, adhesive coverage and print orientationAssess the affected physical part before deciding whether to separate versions
Only the artwork viewing angle changesReset the view, inspect the original file and check the released outputThis action alone does not approve a second production artwork version

Adobe's Rotate canvas view instructions describe rotating the canvas view and explain how to reset it. If purchasing receives a screenshot that has been turned around, inspect object orientation and output in the deliverable file. Do not use the screenshot's viewing angle to decide that an artwork revision is complete. This article does not require projects to use Illustrator.

Record both operating orientations in the sample approval

The equipment project should first list the permitted operating orientations, identifying the operator's side and the physical top edge in each one. Check the reading, fixed text, directional symbols and corresponding keys separately. Record both legibility and correct operating meaning. A readable arrow does not automatically point in the agreed direction.

Retain photographs or diagrams of the same part in each orientation, linked to the artwork revision and the enclosure and display-module configuration. If software settings affect screen orientation, record the actual setting. Leave any untested orientation awaiting confirmation. For a detachable display unit, check its approved placement positions as well; a single front photograph with the unit attached to the main body is insufficient.

Shenzhen Baoshengda Technology Co., Ltd.'s graphic overlay information, with the detailed inputs also available in its Chinese product source, calls for artwork, outline and alignment datums, window and opening dimensions, and assembly checks on the actual enclosure and display module. A standalone graphic or keypad overlay does not include a switch circuit. This article adds operating orientation to the artwork inputs for these projects. It does not claim Baoshengda has validated a particular rotating-display device or supplies its software rotation function.

Decide the number of versions from the physical printed parts

If the same overlay meets requirements in every approved orientation, purchasing can include those orientations in the approval scope for one artwork file. Two placement directions do not, by themselves, double the required quantity. Where legends, symbols or outlines genuinely differ, identify each physical part and specify its assembly location, permitted orientation and quantity. Suppliers can state quotation assumptions while artwork remains undecided, but an assumption is not an approved version.

If a fixed arrow could be misread when the unit is turned around, ask the equipment project to confirm the intended meaning and permitted use before assessing an artwork change. The overlay supplier should not independently swap key names, change directional meaning or remove an operating orientation. Approving a revision from only one upright photograph leaves the original question unresolved until assembly.

Make the purchase documents distinguish the actual parts

  • List permitted operating orientations, operator position, physical top edge and viewing direction. Distinguish dynamic screen content from markings printed on the overlay.
  • Link the released artwork, part number, window and opening datums. If there are two physical printed parts, state their assembly locations and quantities separately instead of ordering an unspecified pair of opposite versions.
  • Record the orientations checked, software direction setting, relationship between readings and fixed legends, and items still awaiting confirmation.
  • The equipment project approves functional and directional meaning; the overlay supplier works to the agreed artwork and assembly requirements. Circuits, display modules and software are not automatically included in an overlay order.

For artwork delivery, see font, linked-image and overprint checks (Chinese). For window positioning, see display-window datums and assembly tolerance checks (Chinese). When using the project enquiry page, include diagrams of every permitted orientation and the current artwork. Establish whether the order covers one overlay used in multiple orientations or two different printed parts before confirming quotation and sample-approval scope.
