Prototype-to-Production Launch

Before production, document approved samples, BOM, drawing revision, inspection, change control, packaging, and repeat orders, then confirm the relevant requirements against the released drawings, approved samples, and acceptance criteria.

Protect the approved baseline

Production launch aligns the approved sample, drawings, BOM, inspection, packaging, and change rules

A working prototype does not automatically create a repeatable production process. Release requires controlled files, material status, process instructions, fixtures, first-article checks, acceptance criteria, packaging, order quantities, and a method for handling deviations and future revisions.

01

Freeze release inputs

Confirm approved sample, mechanical and circuit drawings, artwork, pin map, BOM, tests, inspection plan, and authorized deviations.

02

Prepare repeatable controls

Set incoming checks, process records, fixtures, first articles, in-process inspection, final release, lot IDs, and retention samples.

03

Plan changes and repeats

Define material substitution, engineering changes, obsolete stock, replenishment baseline, packaging, forecasts, and schedule updates.

Process handoff

Connect drawings, samples, inspection, and production

Keep Prototype-to-Production Launch aligned with the released drawings, approved sample, and downstream inspection records.

Which inputs should be controlled before Prototype-to-Production Launch begins?

Complete “Freeze release inputs” first. Identify the drawing revision, materials, tooling, sample purpose, and inspection requirements before deciding how this stage should proceed.

How should the output from Prototype-to-Production Launch be handed to the next stage?

Use “Prepare repeatable controls” to record the current result, then complete “Plan changes and repeats” so the effective revision, exceptions, and open items are clear at handoff. Schedules depend on complexity, material readiness, and approval status.

Send a drawing—or begin with the equipment use

Artwork, enclosure dimensions, sample photos, or a question list can all start the engineering review.
