DFM and Drawing Review

Before production, document structure, materials, circuits, windows, tail, assembly sequence, tolerances, and test conditions, then confirm the relevant requirements against the released drawings, approved samples, and acceptance criteria.

Close design questions early

DFM review turns separate artwork, circuit, enclosure, and interface files into one buildable baseline

The purpose of DFM is to identify missing inputs, conflicting datums, tolerance risks, material decisions, circuit issues, assembly constraints, and undefined tests before tooling or samples. Open questions and revisions should remain visible until resolved.

01

Check file consistency

Compare mechanical drawing, artwork, circuit, pin map, BOM, and enclosure model for revision, orientation, dimensions, and datums.

02

Record open decisions

List material, color, key feel, windows, tail, connector, adhesive, environment, tests, and owner for every unresolved item.

03

Release a controlled baseline

Issue the reviewed drawings, approved deviations, sample plan, inspection points, and change process before production.

Process handoff

Connect drawings, samples, inspection, and production

Keep DFM and Drawing Review aligned with the released drawings, approved sample, and downstream inspection records.

Which inputs should be controlled before DFM and Drawing Review begins?

Complete “Check file consistency” first. Identify the drawing revision, materials, tooling, sample purpose, and inspection requirements before deciding how this stage should proceed.

How should the output from DFM and Drawing Review be handed to the next stage?

Use “Record open decisions” to record the current result, then complete “Release a controlled baseline” so the effective revision, exceptions, and open items are clear at handoff. The review records open questions and revisions but does not replace the customer's equipment-design responsibility.

Project RFQ

Send a drawing—or begin with the equipment use

Artwork, enclosure dimensions, sample photos, or a question list can all start the engineering review.
