A membrane switch vent path needs to address both tactile response and possible contamination entry. Trace where air leaves each switch cavity, then check that bonding and final assembly have not changed that path. Internal connections between cavities differ from openings to the outside. Do not simply seal a path to keep dust out or add a hole to lighten the feel; agree the construction and validation conditions for the project.
On 15 October 2026, Instrument Network published an industrial-fair report attributed to SRI Instruments describing the iCG08 heavy-load floating force-controlled grinding tool and its integrated force, displacement and inclination sensors. This article cites it on 19 October as a recent development. The report does not give the exact first exhibition date, disclose the control panel’s internal construction or establish a Baoshengda supply relationship.
If your own grinding equipment has a separate membrane switch and its operating area has confirmed dust exposure, review where the air travels alongside whether dust could enter along that path. The report alone does not establish dust ingress, a particular keypad construction or a fault in the featured tool. The following review concerns your own equipment under confirmed exposure conditions.
Venting does not necessarily require an opening at the edge
Epec’s keypad reliability guidance explains that pressing a key reduces the air volume in its cavity. A completely closed local cavity can generate opposing pressure and diminish tactile response. A path directly to the outside can also admit contamination during pressing and release. These are construction principles, not a diagnosis of a particular sample. A muted feel alone does not establish that a vent is blocked.
The Venting section of Epec’s membrane switch design guide describes channels between switch cavities in the spacer layer, allowing internal air displacement while maintaining a closed external boundary under normal atmospheric conditions. A need for air displacement therefore does not automatically require an external hole. Available internal volume, key combinations and the external environment still need assessment for the actual construction; the example is not a universal sealing design.
Trace the same air path in section and plan views
Follow the cavity through the spacer channel to its outlet, then overlay the adhesive, PCB and enclosure mating surfaces. This is a project drawing review, not a universal dimensional specification or a finding that an ingress requirement has been met.
| Project review suggestions based on the Epec principles above. Confirm the actual channels, environmental testing and acceptance criteria; do not mark unverified items as passed. | ||
|---|---|---|
| Location along the path | Question for the drawing and assembly | Action when information is missing |
| Switch cavity and adjacent volume | Does the path lead to another cavity, reserved internal space or the outside? Do key combinations change the volume available for air displacement? | Add the spacer drawing and stack section; an electrical continuity diagram is not an air-path drawing. |
| Edges, openings and sealing boundary | Where is the outlet actually located? Does it cross the project’s required contamination barrier? | Mark exposed and protected sides. An unknown outlet location does not establish dust protection. |
| Adhesive, support and PCB mating surfaces | Do the production adhesive, enclosure support or bond position cover a planned path? If a PCB hole is used, where does its far side lead? | Overlay mating parts and adhesive coverage on the same drawing revision. Confirm the design before changing holes. |
| Installed and modified states | After changing adhesive, spacer, openings or support, does the path still match the approved sample? | Retain the old and new paths and affected validation items. Matching outlines alone do not justify release. |
For example, a drawing may vent through a PCB hole while a separate adhesive layer covers that hole on the back. Check whether a connected space actually remains. A visible hole in the PCB does not establish an open path after installation. This is a hypothetical drawing review, not a fault observed in a Baoshengda product or the equipment in the news.
Check tactile and electrical results in the intended installed state
Establish a baseline with samples representing production bonding, support and sealing. Fix the indenter, contact position, speed and key combinations, and record press/release curves separately from electrical closure and release. If temporarily lifting an edge makes a key feel lighter, that only suggests the changed boundary affected the result. It does not validate a deliverable construction.
For your own grinding operating area with confirmed dust exposure, the equipment owner should provide the contaminant type, exposure locations, cleaning method and actual operating state before agreeing suitable environmental validation and acceptance criteria. Record the sample revision, exposure conditions and mechanical and electrical results before and after exposure. A bare switch that feels acceptable, looks free of dust or closes once does not establish installed ingress protection. Any additional barrier or alternative vent arrangement needs assessment against airflow requirements and validation results. This article specifies no universal hole diameter, material or protection rating.
Include the air path in the supply handoff
Shenzhen Baoshengda Technology Co., Ltd.’s membrane switch customization guidance (Chinese) calls for confirming keys, circuits, adhesive and installed samples against the enclosure, main board and environment. When discussing venting, provide spacer drawings, path endpoints, adhesive coverage and support/PCB mating details together. Identify parts supplied by the equipment owner and who is responsible for assembly and environmental validation. A graphic overlay or keypad overlay alone is not a complete switch. If metal domes are supplied for use with a customer PCB, separately assign responsibility for that PCB and its vent holes. The English membrane switch page provides the product inquiry route.
Use the revision review guide (Chinese) to link effective drawings, BOM, approved samples and change records. This public guide supports project checks; it does not establish that a vent construction, test or protection rating has passed. List any unresolved path or exposure conditions, then agree what the samples need to validate.
For force/travel measurement, see keypad tactile acceptance (Chinese). For enclosure protection scope, see overlay sealing and enclosure protection boundaries (Chinese). This article adds air-path routing and assembly checks; it does not replace either form of validation.
When using Baoshengda’s project contact page, first mark cavities, internal connections and every external outlet, and attach photographs of the back of the production assembly. If the side on which an outlet terminates is still unknown, retain it as an open review item rather than specifying “fully sealed with unchanged tactile response” in the order.
