No. Passing incoming inspection does not, by itself, establish a membrane switch's operating life. Incoming inspection determines whether to accept a lot under agreed rules. Endurance verification examines changes under specified actuation, electrical and environmental conditions. Purchasing teams should request the lot inspection record and the endurance report separately. A shipment approval alone cannot establish both.
What did the “pass” actually cover?
NIST's explanation of acceptance sampling states that its main purpose is to decide whether to accept a lot, not to estimate the lot's quality. Checking the appearance, dimensions or continuity of membrane switch samples supports only the items actually recorded. It does not establish their behavior after repeated operation.
Before relying on the conclusion, check the drawing number, revision, lot, inspection items and acceptance criteria. If a record says only “inspection passed,” ask which keys were checked and how they were judged before deciding whether to accept the lot.
AQL is not the measured defect rate of this lot
NIST's discussion of sampling plans considers sample size, acceptance rules and sampling risks together. Sampling can reject an acceptable lot or accept an unacceptable one. An AQL and its associated plan are not a measurement of this lot's actual defect rate, nor a guarantee that every unit conforms.
This article does not recommend a universal sampling percentage or AQL for membrane switches. Purchasing and quality teams should agree the sample size, acceptance and rejection rules, and defect definitions for the consequences and lot conditions involved. An order that says only “inspect to AQL” still leaves the plan, revision and defect definitions unspecified.
An endurance report needs traceable samples and conditions
The official public description of ASTM F1578-24 covers cycling membrane switches through actuation and release. It addresses electrical contact reliability and mechanical changes, with measurements before, during and after cycling. This describes the method's scope; it does not set one operating-life requirement for every membrane switch.
The report should identify the sample construction and lot, actuation location and method, electrical conditions, environment, observation points and failure criteria. Reaching a cycle-count endpoint without checking continuity changes, abnormal return or structural damage leaves the report's coverage unclear. This article does not replace the full standard or claim that Baoshengda has completed testing to it.
| Question | Records to examine | What the records do not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Can this lot be accepted? | Lot identity, sampling rules, items actually inspected, results and acceptance criteria | Conformity of uninspected items, or a defect-free lot |
| What happens after repeated actuation? | Sample identity, cycling conditions, observations and failure criteria | Service life in years for any equipment |
| Does the report cover this order? | Drawing revision, material stack, interface and relationship to the tested sample | That a similar-looking construction can use another report's conclusions |
| How was an abnormal result handled? | Photos, test data, affected lots and agreed disposition records | That a passing retest erases the original abnormal result |
| Scope and sources of this table | Project-record review suggestions; see NIST for lot acceptance and the ASTM F1578-24 public description for cycling scope | Not a universal life requirement, sampling percentage or proof of completed company testing; agree methods and criteria for the project |
Does the fixture's count prove a valid electrical operation?
The published utility-model document CN220625724U, “一种按键开关寿命自动测试装置”, names Shenzhen Baoshengda Technology Co., Ltd. as applicant and has a publication date of March 19, 2024. The published PDF describes pneumatic clamping, a linkage-driven reciprocating press, springs and buffer blocks. The counter increments when the descending fixed plate interrupts an infrared beam.
That infrared count records movement of the fixed plate. The document does not describe a module that judges each operation by contact continuity or contact resistance. A report claiming valid electrical operations still needs separate wiring details, a measurement method and pass criteria. A mechanical count cannot simply substitute for those records.
The described fixture and buffers offer useful questions for a test plan: how is the sample held, where does the actuator contact it, and how is overtravel controlled? This is a reference to a historical apparatus design. Current equipment configuration, sample test results and the patent's current legal status require separate verification. A heating element shown in the document does not, on its own, establish low-temperature testing capability.
Agree the test conditions before requesting a quotation
Include the drawing number, revision and expected order quantity, together with key operation, electrical interface, assembly state and environment. List lot inspection requirements separately from additional verification work. If endurance verification is needed, record the project conditions below. Leave unresolved items marked for confirmation; do not borrow values from a different product.
| Handover item | Project information to complete |
|---|---|
| Relationship between sample and order | Sample ID____; drawing/BOM revision____; lot____; quantity____; differences from the ordered construction____ |
| Fixturing and contact | Fixture/support and assembly state____; actuator shape, dimensions, location and direction____ |
| Actuation | Force- or travel-controlled method and settings____; frequency____; press and release times____ |
| Electrical measurement | Load and wiring____; measurement method____; closure and release criteria____ |
| Environment and preconditioning | Preconditioning____; temperature, humidity and other conditions____; logging method____ |
| Cycling and observations | Target cycles____; observation points____; rules for stopping and retesting after an abnormal result____ |
| Assessment and traceability | Failure criteria____; location of raw data and photos____; person confirming the conclusion and date____ |
| Nature and basis of this table | Project discussion suggestions: agree the fields for the sample and application. The ASTM F1578-24 public description explains cycling scope only; this is not the full standard's checklist, a universal life requirement or evidence that Baoshengda completed the test |
This table helps both parties agree project conditions. It is not a universal operating-life standard. Retain acceptance-sampling and cycling records separately, including both the first abnormal result and any subsequent retest.
For inspection items, see the membrane switch specification guide (Chinese). The key feel acceptance guide (Chinese) discusses actuation force and return. Use these guides to define the checks. Results still need the project's own test report.
For custom membrane switch enquiries, use Baoshengda's contact page to send the drawing revision, quantity and acceptance items needing confirmation. Separate lot acceptance requirements from endurance conditions so the supplier can identify which costs and verification work are included and which need agreement.
