Local or remote? How to verify a membrane-key control handover

When a membrane key requests a transfer, the controller confirms which station has authority. Compare both stations during a pending request, a confirmed or refused transfer, and reconnection.

When a membrane key requests a switch between local and remote control, distinguish the key request from the control authority confirmed by the controller. Record where the request came from, then use the confirmed authority to update the screen or indicator. Until the controller confirms the change, do not show the request as an accomplished transfer. After a connection loss and recovery, verify control authority again under the project's rules before updating the display. This guide covers routine operator interfaces, not emergency stops, interlocks or safety mode selection.

In its November 6, 2026 report from the China International Import Expo (Chinese), Panasonic China described welding robots for manufacturing sites that use IoT to connect equipment. The report did not describe how control authority is transferred, whether membrane keys are used, or whether Baoshengda supplied any parts. In a separate equipment project with a machine-side station and a supervisory station, the operator at the machine needs to see which station currently has permission to issue routine commands.

Give the request and the confirmed authority separate states

The “Local” and “Remote” legends need to match the equipment's control definition. If the key only requests a transfer, a press or contact closure can confirm the input, not the transfer. Use the controller's confirmed state to show current control authority on the screen or at the indicator window. If the equipment also uses a maintained selector, identify its position and the active control station separately in the drawing. Whether they always match depends on the equipment design.

The Siemens WinCC Unified wastewater application example (p. 28) describes operating authority at the central SCADA system and at the local HMI panel separately. The Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View control documentation also configures who may select a state separately from the tag used to select it. Each source describes its own example or control; neither sets the authority rules or indicator colors for other equipment.

Compare both stations in the same test record

Use a simulation or no-load test environment approved by the equipment team. Record the initial displays, current authority and routine test commands for both stations together. The test checks which station's commands are accepted; it does not require an actuator to move. A project with a supervisory station should also cover a refused transfer, connection loss and recovery. Do not create faults on operating production equipment for this check.

Handover scenarioWhat to check at both stations
Transfer request still pendingRecord the key input and the station the controller currently authorizes. The interface can show the request, but must not indicate that authority has already changed hands.
Transfer to the other station confirmedCheck the same controller state at both stations. Under the project rules, use routine test commands to check which operations are restricted at the old station and permitted at the new one.
Transfer refused or a condition not metRecord the request, actual authorized station and refusal indication. If the old authority is still valid, pressing the key must not change the label to the other station.
Supervisory station reconnects after a lossCheck how the interface marks authority as unconfirmed. Read the current controller state after reconnection; a screen cached before the loss does not establish renewed authority.

Give command execution its own column, separate from the currently authorized station. One records who may issue the command; the other records what happened after it was issued. The guide to checking key actions against status indicators (Chinese) covers the latter. If a program change alters a key's function, use the separate HMI upgrade check for key functions and legends (Chinese).

Shenzhen Baoshengda Technology Co., Ltd.'s membrane-switch customization page (Chinese) lists key definitions, circuit or interface information, and tail exit direction as quotation inputs. For a change to a legend, indicator window or key, send the layout, interface information and confirmed handover table through the project contact page. The equipment team defines the authority rules and verifies the complete equipment. A graphic overlay or keypad overlay supplied only as a surface part does not contain switch circuitry. The cover shows a sample panel with printed mode legends. It is not the Panasonic exhibit or a record of a control-authority test. See the English membrane-switch product page for the product scope.
