Membrane switch GPIO RFQs: electrical and supply boundaries

GPIO support alone does not establish compatibility with a membrane switch. Separate passive contacts, active interface boards and indicator power before defining equipment requirements, supply scope and sample integration responsibilities.

Before requesting a quote for a membrane switch connected to equipment GPIO, define whether you are buying a passive contact assembly or an operator panel with an active interface board. Ask the equipment owner for the exact port definition, input and output directions, permitted voltage and current, activation conditions and power-up states. These determine the circuit, connector and integration responsibilities. A "GPIO compatible" label or connector photograph does not establish compatibility. This article covers procurement documentation for ordinary, non-safety controls, not live wiring instructions.

In its AP-10 announcement dated October 14, 2026, TASCAM describes an announcement SD player that can use GPIO to work with external operator panels, sensors and timers, and can output control signals according to playback status. Release is planned for late October. This is the recent news item used here; the announcement does not identify a membrane switch construction or a Baoshengda supply relationship.

If your own equipment requires an external membrane keypad and its port includes both inputs and outputs, which terminals does "GPIO interface" refer to in the RFQ? Is the supplier providing only contacts that open and close, or also level conversion, power and status indication? The answer changes the BOM, the item being quoted and the scope of sample integration.

Identify the purpose of each GPIO terminal

The GPIO name alone does not define each terminal's electrical purpose. The AP-10 product information also lists power supplied through GPIO. That is a design specific to this model, but it gives buyers a reason to distinguish control inputs, status outputs and power within an interface. This article does not provide an AP-10 pin connection or apply its design to other equipment.

Obtain the current interface drawing and instructions from the equipment owner. Identify every input, output, common reference and power terminal. If software can configure a terminal, record the configuration for this project and the state after startup. State input direction from the equipment's perspective: a supplier saying that a panel "outputs a key signal" must not lead anyone to treat an equipment output as a receiving input.

Passive contacts and active outputs are different purchases

A passive contact assembly makes and breaks the agreed circuit without generating a specified logic voltage itself. This does not establish electrical isolation of the complete installed circuit. The equipment documentation must still define how its reading circuit applies voltage or current and detects the state. A contact without its own power source still needs its operating conditions and contact circuit checked.

NI's digital output connection guide distinguishes TTL, sinking, sourcing and relay outputs, and requires signals to match the device configuration and specifications. It concerns NI DAQ equipment, not a universal wiring standard for AP-10 or membrane switches. Its voltage and current values must not be copied into this project's requirements.

These RFQ scope checks combine the NI output-type guide with Baoshengda product information. Electrical conditions, implementation and verification responsibilities require project agreement. This is not a universal wiring table.

For example, "pressing gives the equipment an active input and lights an indicator" does not identify who generates the indicator drive signal. If an additional interface board is required, the electrical owner should define it and the relevant suppliers should state their scope. Keep it unresolved in the quote until confirmed. This is a hypothetical RFQ situation, not a reported fault or a Baoshengda delivery case.

The equipment owner defines electrical requirements; suppliers state their scope

The equipment electrical owner should define the accepted input form, active and inactive states, permitted voltage and current, reference connections, pull-up or pull-down conditions, and requirements during power-up, reset and disconnection. Identify the responsible module when isolation or protection is required. This article does not replace professional review of the interface, safety or protection design.

The component supplier should respond with the delivered circuits, connector, cable, rated or agreed operating conditions and limitations requiring verification. If requirements extend beyond passive-component supply, state whether an interface board is included and who designs and supplies it. Procurement documents should assign component manufacture, interface compatibility review and equipment integration separately; "GPIO compatible" does not assign these jobs.

Shenzhen Baoshengda Technology Co., Ltd.'s membrane-switch information calls for circuit and tail definition against the mainboard interface, followed by key mapping and continuity checks with the same-version enclosure and mainboard. A separately supplied graphic overlay or key label does not include switch circuits. For an overlay with metal domes used with a customer's PCB, list that PCB, the reading circuit and assembly verification separately. This public information supports discussion of supply scope; it does not establish that Baoshengda supplies arbitrary GPIO conversion boards or complete equipment control designs. The Chinese product source provides the original scope wording.

Keep three corresponding records before sample integration

  1. Equipment interface definition: equipment and hardware version, the applicable port drawing, terminal purposes, electrical conditions and the configuration used.
  2. Supplier response: membrane-switch circuit and interface drawings, cable and connector definitions, included and excluded components, unresolved items and their owners.
  3. Integration record: sample and equipment versions, approved test conditions, expected states on press and release, and actual results and dispositions under project requirements such as power-up or reset.

A standalone continuity check establishes only that check's result. Record valid input detection, release and status indication on the actual equipment separately, leaving untested items unresolved. The project version-checking guide (Chinese) calls for correspondence between orders, drawings, BOMs, samples and results. When an interface board, pin order or configuration changes, the responsible owner should define the recheck scope.

For general custom-order documentation, see drawing, material, interface and sample confirmation (Chinese). For matrix combinations, see combination-key procurement and acceptance boundaries (Chinese). This article concerns the electrical objects and quotation responsibilities for external GPIO, rather than repeating matrix scanning or contact debouncing guidance.

When using the Baoshengda project contact page, attach the equipment port documentation and proposed component scope. If the only requirement is "GPIO compatible," establish terminal purposes and equipment reading conditions before deciding whether the RFQ is for a passive switch, an operator panel with an interface board, or an overlay alone.
