Graphic overlays delivered with protective film: agreeing on peel inspection

Agree on inspection with film present and after removal, including sample IDs, who peels the film, inspected areas, and restored protection. Keep before-and-after records and leave unpeeled surface areas pending.

When a graphic overlay is delivered with temporary protective film, purchasing should first agree which condition is being accepted: the appearance with the film in place, the actual surface after removal, or separate checks of both. Specify the samples that may be peeled, who will do it, the removal method, observation conditions, and how the parts will be protected afterward. Seeing no defect through the film does not establish acceptance of the underlying surface. Nor should the entire batch be assumed eligible for peeling.

In a corporate report dated October 27, 2026 (Chinese), Padbot said it was exhibiting indoor and outdoor patrol robots at ROBOTECH 2026, held in Shenzhen from October 27 to 29. This article uses the company's account of its participation and application settings without adopting its detection counts or performance claims. It does not infer any particular panel, protective film, or Baoshengda component in the exhibited robots.

Moving from looking at equipment at an exhibition to buying panel samples for your own project requires agreement on the delivery condition. If a supplier delivers overlays covered with temporary film, which layer contains the reflection, scratch, or bubble visible in a photograph? The following suggestions concern your own purchasing and sample receipt. They do not assess the appearance of the reported robots or treat exhibition photographs as delivery inspection records.

State which layer stays in place until which stage

Ask the supplier to identify the overlay itself, any temporary film on its face, and the release liner for the mounting adhesive, with each layer's purpose and removal stage. A transparent layer is not necessarily a removable protective film. Do not peel a permanent surface coating or functional film based on appearance. If the construction is unclear, ask the supplier to confirm it before attempting removal.

tesa's surface-protection information describes temporary protection during manufacturing, storage, transport, and installation, and distinguishes removable from permanent solutions. Protection therefore has different forms. Confirm the actual material, how long it should remain, and how to remove it against the supplier's requirements for the panel. This article does not turn tesa's service-life or residue-free-removal claims into Baoshengda commitments.

Graphic overlay peel inspection checklist

This checklist is for purchasing and sample receipt, not a standard sampling plan. Agree on quantities, methods, and criteria before inspection. Identify uninspected areas; results from a few peeled samples do not establish acceptance of the entire batch or every performance requirement.

Item to agreeWhat purchasing and the supplier should confirmLimit of the record
Which parts may be peeledPart number, artwork revision, batch and sample IDs, plus removal area and quantityApplies only to the identified samples; do not assume the whole batch may be peeled
Who removes the film and whenThe responsible party, allowed method, and whether removal occurs at receipt, assembly, or final handoffUnfinished stages remain pending; signing for a parcel does not complete surface acceptance
Which areas are inspected afterwardApplicable legends, windows, and texture areas, with approved samples, lighting, and observation conditionsAppearance inspection does not replace abrasion, cleaning-agent, or switch electrical tests
Protection and handoff after inspectionWhether the film may be reapplied or needs replacement, identification and packaging, and any costs and receiving conditionsDo not assume the original film can be reapplied for every product; record the restored protection separately
How a visible mark is reviewedBefore-and-after photographs, the original film and sample identity, and who decides against which criteriaDo not assign blame or wipe away evidence before distinguishing a film scratch, panel damage, and residue

Nitto's SPV-J Series information describes protection during plastic-nameplate printing, punching, and transport. It identifies manual peeling and reapplication during inspection of printed surfaces as a feature of that series. It also cautions that small amounts of adhesive residue may affect later coating or bonding and calls for evaluation under actual conditions. This does not establish that other films can be reapplied or that the project uses SPV-J. If bonding or coating follows, include the effect of film removal on that process in the actual sample review.

Preserve the same location before and after removal

For example, if a line is visible on a delivered sample through its film, first photograph the sample ID and location. The agreed operator can then remove the film by the confirmed method and compare the same area. A mark that leaves with the film and one that remains on the panel are different observations; record each against the actual criteria. This example explains recordkeeping. It does not establish that a sample passed or that either party caused the mark.

Do not improvise with solvent, scraping, or repeated forceful pulling to get a clearer view. Retain the original film, the sample, and its storage and handling records for the agreed review. The surface condition of unpeeled areas remains pending; the report should cover only the areas actually inspected.

Shenzhen Baoshengda Technology Co., Ltd.'s testing and inspection guidance (Chinese) requires methods, samples, conditions, criteria, and original records to correspond to the current project. For this sample receipt, state whether film was present or removed, the inspected scope, and outstanding items. The guidance is not an inspection report for the batch and specifies no universal peel quantity or acceptance limit.

Include delivery protection when requesting an appearance quotation

Baoshengda Technology's graphic-overlay and key-overlay information (Chinese) asks for artwork, color references, surface requirements, and assembly conditions, with sample IDs and observation or measurement conditions retained. A quotation request can identify window and legend areas needing protection, later assembly operations, the intended sample-receipt process, and peel-inspection arrangements. Ask the supplier which protection and handoff work is included; confirm materials, costs, and responsibilities individually. The English graphic-overlay page provides the localized product introduction.

A separate graphic overlay or key overlay does not include a switch circuit. For an overlay with metal domes that works with the customer's PCB, identify the electrical and assembly responsibilities separately. The cover shows an existing black window-frame sample, not a before-and-after removal comparison. It does not establish the material grade, protective-film type, or residue-free removal.

For the roles of approved and defect samples, see visual-inspection reference samples (Chinese). For color-comparison conditions, see lighting, surface condition, and approved color samples (Chinese). When sending artwork and delivery-condition requirements through the existing contact channels, list peel inspection and restoration of protection separately, so responsibility for the work is agreed before the samples arrive.
