Learn from the installed sample

A prototype should answer named design questions, not merely reproduce a drawing

Prototype scope varies with materials, tooling, circuit complexity, lighting, purchased parts, and the amount of open design work. The plan should identify what the sample represents, what remains provisional, and how appearance, fit, feel, function, and tests will be approved.

01

Define sample intent

State whether the build is for appearance, fit, electrical function, tactile feel, optical review, environmental testing, or all of them.

02

Mark provisional details

Identify temporary material, color, tooling, process, connector, backlight, or test differences that prevent full equivalence.

03

Capture the approval record

Record sample ID, drawing revision, installed results, changes, accepted limits, and the baseline released for production.

Process handoff

Connect drawings, samples, inspection, and production

Keep Membrane Switch Prototype and Sample Approval Guide aligned with the released drawings, approved sample, and downstream inspection records.

Should the sample be installed in the equipment?

For fit, tactile feel, window alignment, or interface checks, install the sample in the intended enclosure and connect the board. An appearance sample alone cannot confirm installed behavior.

Can we start with photos only?

Photos can start the appearance and application discussion. Before fabrication, confirm key dimensions, interface definitions, and the questions this sample should resolve. A physical sample helps clarify the structure.

Project RFQ

Send a drawing—or begin with the equipment use

Artwork, enclosure dimensions, sample photos, or a question list can all start the engineering review.
